Who's a fan?

I've been slowly getting into this genre more and more. I needs more, Sci-Fi!

Anyways, discuss. What's your favourite science fiction movie/book/video game/whatever other media there is for science fiction? Favourite type of science fiction?

I know there are some nerds lurking about the forum...

My favorite TV series are Star Trek: The Next Generation and Deep Space Nine which is kinda ironic because I always used to mock trekkies.

Favorite book is 1984 of course.

I haven't really read a lot of science fiction books.
Of course 1984 and Fahrenheit 451 are effing sweet.

Also, I really like Phillip K Dick. If you've never read A Scanner Darkly or Andriods Dream of Electric Sheep, I liked them both when I read them. The movie A Scanner Darkly is effing sweet.

i have been a sci-fi fan my whole life. Starting with Star Trek, my grandfather got me hooked on the whole genre. he has a shed in his back yard that just looks like a shed. Then you walk in and its a sci-fi museum. Mostly Star Trek...

Fav. Shows ST. Deep Space 9. babylon 5, Battle Star galactica (the newest version he old one sucks). Star Gate SG1, X-files. Start with Battle Star b/c its short only like 4 seasons but amazing. If you want a good movie Stargate with Kurt Russel is one of the best.

Well other than my unnatural infatuation with Star Wars, I really enjoy all of Kurt Vonnegut's science fiction stuff, especially his short stories. There's also a lot of Science Fiction books my dad read me when I was really young that I enjoyed a lot, although the only one I can specifically remember is "The Stars My Destination" by Alfred Bester which I've since reread and is really good.

And of course, 1984 if you want to count it.

I prefer anything that's not really in the fantasy side of the genre.

I come from a family of sci fi geeks, so it's always been pretty much anything I can gobble down.

I prefer the old, old, black and white movies than most of what the sy-fy channel spits out. You can get a laugh out of the graphics but usually the story lines are better than what's coming out lately, especially any of the remakes.

Gattaca is currently my favorite because I lost the movie and I'm a sucker for that kind of story.

I watched Pandemonium on Netflix recently, which is a mix of Sci fi and horrorish. It's a fun watch.

I would argue that the later seasons of Battlestar Gallatica sucked, but definetly go with the Stargate movie with Kurt Russel. Also, Stargate: Universe kind of sucks your soul loose.

The first season of Sliders is pretty good, but after that it really starts falling down the crapper.

I'm currently fighting the battle against this steam punk stuff but it's going to probably suck me in.

I've always been a Star Trek/Star Wars fan but that goes without saying really. I watched Farscape a couple of months ago, LOVED IT and now I'm working through Battlestar Galactica. Fucking love it.

I think I'll work through Caprica after this then do Firefly since apparently it's great despite being cancelled half way through the first season.

I suppose I'll move to Stargate after that.

Unfortunately those are the only ones I haven't seen of the series. D:

Also I heard Battlestar Galactica (at least the new series) was really good for the first couple of seasons but then the last seasons were all fanatically religious and all that. Still, my friend owns the whole series plus The Plan, so I'll watch it.

I've been meaning to watch Firefly for a little while, but still haven't gotten around to it. Got halfway through Serenity, and intend to watch the rest, but it got interrupted, last time.

Also, I've never really been able to get into Star Trek. Don't know why.

Has anyone played Mass Effect or Mass Effect 2? Good games, can't wait for the third.

And as for books, the only science fiction I've read is the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy series (awesome).

the entire battlestar series is wrapped in philosophy and religion but it just turned into a bit of a day time drama in the 3rd season, then bounced back. I would say don't bother with the Battlestar spin off Caprica. Its interesting but its kinda boring. Nothing about it makes me excited for next weeks episode, know what i mean? I think it got the ax anyways.
I forgot about firefly, great show/movie which reminds me Joss Whedons Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel also great shows. Fuck that Twilight, True Blood Shit hehe

I don't really play video games anymore but I'm about to buy Starcraft2
Edit- I think i've realized why I don't have a girl friend Sad

My friend got the second season of True Blood, and he's quite enjoying it. But I've got little intention to watch Twilight.

Also, I tried Star Wars: The Force Unleashed last night. It's fun, I only tried the first level, though. Knights Of The Old Republic, I really enjoyed, and can't wait for The Old Republic.

Never played Starcraft but I've heard good things.

The last time I tried, it was waaay too late, and I fell asleep. And it's like impossible for me to fall asleep during movies.

Also, that face needs to become an emoticon on this forum.
