I started reading No Country for Old Men a while ago just because it was lying around, but I didn't really get into it. Blood Meridian sounds a lot better though.

I'm started reading it and it's reaaally good. Check it out.

Gonna add 'really, reeeeally' to that. I love how this guy describes things.

I love love love Blood Meridian. And I've stated that probably on several threads but I don't care, I preach that book religiously and have suggested it to any one who will listen, because out of all my friends, I'm the only one who's read it the whole way through. Glad to see some people are reading/have read it here, McCarthy is my favorite author behind the nearly god-like Faulkner (though I'd say McCarthy is probably technically a better writer) but he speaks a lot of truths about the human condition, and really tweaks your brain.

Lets just say... they don't shy from the murder of women and children, and the descriptions of battle and the aftermath are... realistic. Very, very, realistic.

It's the best book. Ever. Which is why it will never be made into a movie. The populace will never see a movie based on violent acts which include: The sodomizing of dead soldiers by Apache warriors, The hanging of babies and smashing of baby skulls with rocks, the scalping of children, or any of the other numerous accounts of child murder that take place in this extremely vivid book. And no one could have written it better than McCarthy, he's the only author I know that could make it almost... beautiful. Not saying I'm a child murder/rape advocate, but the way he can make things sound... just stunning.

I LOVE fantasy books, but I thought lord of the rings was just boring. I have never read about so much reading in my life!

You should read the runelords, the first 3 are just incredible. It's about a world where there is a material called blood metal which allows people to transfer their attributes to another person. For example you could transfer your metabilism to someone, that would make that person twice as fast as a normal person, but leave you basically stuck in time. Of course it ends up that kings/barons/knights get all the attributes to make ultimate warriors. The books has really good undertones of oppression and squandering limited resources(the blood metal is running out quickly). Just an awesome series of books.

Another series I am going to recomend is the Wayfarer Redemption. It's 6 books starting with a book called battleaxe. Although I think in the UK it was published by someone else and devided into two serieses, the first series being called the axis trilogy. It's about a guy who is working for a religious group in it's army, he's basically their general. Then he gets wrapped up in a prophecy set out by a guy from a different race that his people forced out of the known world a couple thousand years before. You can see so many references to going back to the old ways of greek gods/nature gods, and away from the modern church. It is excelent.

They're both epic fantasy books, that I found really hard to put down, and was devistated when I finished reading them.

I've heard that's good, not sure if I could take another book on right now, have like... 10 or so in my line up, most of which are rather long (one being Ulysses, one being War and Peace) but I'll definitely remember the title for later!

I took Spanish. Less interesting. But over 50% of my town speaks it as their primary language. So, it's kinda useful. Except, I use my foreign language knowledge to construct sentences like:

ĦSuperhombre dio me un burro com pomulos grandes que teleporta en un coche!

Which roughly translates to:

Superman gave me a donkey with big cheek bones that teleports in a car.
