Lets break it down

If you follow the jaw line down over the heart,
the curves of your bone and muscle that make up your head to toe...
It's just skin and thread, stitches and ligaments,
words that we spoke only to regret.

Sounds like Tommy is just talking about the face muscles.
Weird.

And I know they're going to laugh at us
when they, when they see us out together "holding hands" like this.
They wouldn't understand it if we told them all the reasons,
not that I think this deserves any kind of explanation.

This sounds like a gay relationship.
When tom sings 'They wouldn't understand it if we told them all the reasons' Explaining why people are gay is hard, and because of what they were taught, they wouldn't understand it.

And we'll, we'll make it up so we've got a smile painted on all the time,
no matter what it's like on the inside.
We'll keep this, keep us like a secret,

Some of the time people don't tell other people that they are gay or in a gay relationship

cause if my family and friends ever found out about
the things we could never be,
haunts we'll all keep, so fucking bittersweet.

Family and friends might disown them if they were gay

And I know they're going to laugh at us
when they, when they see us out together "holding hands" like this.
They wouldn't understand it if we told them all the reasons,
not that I think this deserves any kind of explanation.

Chorus.

Yep sounds like a song about gay relationships.

I don't think this is about a homosexual relationship. It could be, but there are also a lot more things that could be going on here as well. One being maybe they were Ex's that hated each other, got together and everyone still thinks of them as hating each other. There are many different things that this song could be about.

I always think this song is about the part of any serious relationship that nobody but the two of you can really understand and subsequently discount as not being real. My first love once told me, "if I could sing, I'd sing you this song." Smile That was nice. I guess one of the reasons I really love AM!, and mostly for their older stuff, is that all their Crime-AtEC material was the soundtrack to that break-up. You know the part where you're raw inside and just listen to music 24/7 thinking about that person while trying not to think about that person? That was AM! for me without her. Oh man, being a teenage was AWESOME! Smile

Yeah, I think this song can be interpreted in many different ways, and it can mean something completely different to you than the next person. I think many people can connect a relationship in their life to this song, which is a part of why this song is so fucking great.

I had asked Tom about this song a long time ago and he said that the song is about just being with whoever you want to be with. But he said the "We" in the song wasn't referring to him and someone else, but it was him talking to himself..like when you're about to walk into a situation and you say to yourself "Here we go."

I haven't read the e-mail he sent to me in awhile but that was basically what he wrote.

I never thought of it as a gay song. And I think everything is gay. I feel bad now. *tear*

Exacty, doesnt have to be about being gay
