| the chorus makes it pretty obvious what it's about. John McCain wants to have "victory" in Iraq to make up for 'Nam. |

| i agree that this might definately have been aimed at john mccain, and the fact that the name he uses is "johnny" is probably not a coincidence, but i can't help but think that tom is a little bit more poetic and deep than that. i think this is directly aimed at any person who creates or supports a war, skurmish, or cause just to save themselves from personal tragedy, avert attention, or to deviate themselves from a situation. i recently went through girlfriend troubles where my ex caused a big scene over something minor, just to overshadow the fact that she had cheated on me. i kept thinking, "come back home from vietnam (vietnam being seen as a metaphor for her explosive and bullshitty arguement) and focus on the real issues". i might be crazy and 100% wrong, but i'd like to think that half of the point of against me! and particularly tom gabel's music isn't only to prove a point, but also to get people to relate, and relate in any way they deem possible. that's what this forum is about, right? does anybody else think this song somehow relates directly to their lives, or a problematic situation besides the past presidential election? again, maybe i'm just reaching, or out of my fucking mind hahaha |

"Come back home Johnny, come back home johhny, come back home from being numb" I shit you not. _________________ And Maybe we'll never see our efforts indicated maybe we'll never amount to anything We're not looking back, we're not making compromises We are willing to dare, we are willing to believe
