If you are interested, you should read "The Ragged Trousered Philanthropists" by Robert Tressell. It's the exact opposite of The Fountainhead, you may enjoy it just because it is basically an argument for the "other side". I'm going to give "The Fountainhead" another chance, I assure you. |
Yeah, I read Anthem for English a few years ago. That's what got me into Ayn Rand in the first place.
That sounds really interesting... I'll certainly have to check it out. Thanks. |

The Stand (I've been reading this on and off for about 6 months) I've already read it, I just randomly read it again lots of times. I'm also reading Misery, which I've never read. I might start Cujo too, I love horror anything basically. |
I really liked the stand, I read that after eading the dark tower series, which I'm still in love with. steven king wrote an awsome non-fiction book about horror called danse macbre. |

I need to read that book he wrote about dropping acid. It sounds crazy.
Ever read "Brave New World"? It's terrifying how close he hit it.....I just wish that we had islands for people who hate everything. _________________ "Would Hamlet have felt the delicious fascination of suicide if he hadn't had an audience, and lines to speak?" ~ Jean Genet

| Brave New World is one of my favourite books, I simply love that story. I first read it when I was about 10, I was quite shocked by what the kids were actually doing at the start. _________________ The sun's always rising in the sky somewhere...| noni wrote: | | morals are for people who aren't hot enough to get any. |

So I just picked it up figuring it would be the next best thing. I've heard Brave New World is much better though. No spoilerz plz! |

I just finished As I Lay Dying for English too... Crappy band, but excellent read if you like Faulkner. |
I love The Fountainhead. The philosophy behind I like fairly well, too, but I'm not all about it. One of the things I love and hate about her is that she says if you're only going to take a some of the things from the philosophy then do so but don't call yourself an objectivist. If you're going to call yourself an objectivist you have to adhere to every tenent of the philosophy. It was like an atheistic religion. I admit that I'm really partial to the egotist philosophy. |

*sigh* I adoooooooore Brave New World. I'm writing my Senior Paper on it, actually. Huxley and Vonnegut are my two favorite authors.
Speaking of Vonnegut, anyone into Slaughterhouse-Five? Cat's Cradle?

Agreed. She challenges what you believe. That's why I love her books so much, because occasionally I think that everyone needs to be challenged. You know? |

| The last book I read was for English class, and it was The Things They Carried by Tim O'Brien. I loved it a lot. |

| Cosmic Serpent. I have two chapters left. I've been reading it for a while and it's not a hard book at all, I just tend to re read chapters because I'm not the brightest bulb when it comes to anthropology and science in general. |
