I have a favorite, but we haven't gotten there yet. tsk.
We relevance of the "god is dead" line is probably the most argued. I still think he was quoting himself to remind us of his previous work, but that doesn't mean it has no relevance to the plot. It's was his Intro. EVERYTHING in that intro is relevant!

-thus wisdom wants us: she is a woman and always loves only a warrior.
i thought that line was pretty sweet. man the more i read this book the more i see how beautiful it is. Nietzsche is goin wild on all sorts of philosophers when i read "on the despisers of the body" i could see him giving Descartes the finger.

We are reading Thus Spoke Zarathustra. The name of that song is Thus Spoke Zarathustra by Richard Strauss. It manifests what happens in the book... musically. So in the beginning it has that crescendo. In a way demonstrating the intro in the book where Zarathustra is rising and coming out into the world. I think it's a great summary. Any questions, comments, queries, or concerns?

He ain't dead. I'm finished the book and am waiting on ppl to post. Plus, I can't deviate from my stance before that this book is an attack on religion, among other things, for which I've already gotten an ear full (eye full).
He is also fighting nihilism and the last human, both occurring after the death of god and an absence of absolute truth as humanity's moral crutch.
Since we were reading it, I decided to write an English essay using Zarathustra and Canterbury Tales last week. I'll post it when I get it back.

i never said he was not attacking religion, i said he was not attacking god. there is a difference! I'll agree with you wholeheartedly he (Nietzsche) does take a strong stance against religion. (so did Jesus) i understand it's one of those things that gets confused all the time.

Right. There is a difference. My bad.
But the idea of god gives people this image of an absolute truth or meaning of life, and when god dies, their reason for living, which is this absolute truth and meaning of life, dies too and then nihilism ensues. Man strives for nothing because he thinks he has nothing to live for.
Nietzsche isn't hating on god, but he's saying the idea of god should be irrelevant to how life is lived.
