Not sure if anyone has discussed this here yet.
Watch it quick, since videos are being taken down all over the web as we speak, and I'm not sure how long this one will last as well. Fast forward to 1:55.
" This is the actual video that has stirred up so much trouble and controversy. It depicts the first level of the latest Call of Duty game, Modern Warfare 2 which puts the player in the shoes of a Russian ultranationalist terrorist gunning down civilians in a busy airport. The clip has stirred up much controversy as Activision responds (Gathered from IGN) -
"The leaked footage was taken from a copy of game that was obtained illegally and is not representative of the overall gameplay experience in Modern Warfare 2," an Activision spokesperson told IGN.
"Infinity Ward's Modern Warfare 2 features a deep and gripping storyline in which players face off against a terrorist threat dedicated to bringing the world to the brink of collapse," the spokesperson added. "The game includes a plot involving a mission carried out by a Russian villain who wants to trigger a global war. In order to defeat him, the player infiltrates his inner circle. The scene is designed to evoke the atrocities of terrorism."
"At the beginning of the game, players encounter a mandatory "checkpoint" in which they are warned that an upcoming segment may contain disturbing elements and they can choose not to engage in the gameplay that involves this scene," "
I find this more disturbing than GTA or Manhunt. This is as completely realistic as it's ever gotten as far as murdering massive amounts of innocent civilians goes.
Thoughts?
EDIT: Since it's continually being brought down, I managed to find another video of it. As usual, it probably won't last long.

At least there's a disclaimer. Play at your own risk.

Interesting stuff. Looking forward to playing it, I've always needed something like this to practise on so that I can go and massacre airports of my own

Is this the game that has already pre-sold 500 copies in my local gamestop?
Before I continue, video's down again so no first hand look.
It's a video game, it's a first person shooter... about war. I am not suprised there is massive killing of innocent people, why is it so different if the people aren't actively trying to kill you?
That said, when I played Manhunt I lost all violent urges for weeks afterwards, and this was after a had to stop playing mid-way through. I even lost my road rage, I may have to join the masses and pre-order.
Controversy influences my buying habits so hard, I just told the dude I didn't want to pre-order.

IMHO, GTA is worse, you just go down the street killing your average joes. (and hookers). But in this, you're playing as a terrorist, that's what his goal is, and it's not centered around the entire game, just this piece. Whatever, video games have never really bothered me.

I totally agree that GTA is pretty bad. And I've never really cared too much about video game violence.
But if you happen to find a video of it somewhere, it's pretty crazy. Just the way the whole scenario plays out, it feels SO realistic, and cold. GTA has always, in my opinion, had a "ha-ha" kind of attitude towards killing randoms and stuff. But just the way the everyone reacts and the way it's planned, prepared, and executed sent a shiver down my spine.
Obviously I'm buying it. I just found this mission surprisingly disturbing. Of course, there's rumor this might be a deleted mission, but either way, I'm still a COD fan. Just a little surprised at how seriously they take their jobs of creating a realistic, modern warfare experience.
I mean, bravo for effectively playing on people's emotions to show the atrocities of terrorism.
I don't really know what I'm trying to say. I think just that it's a very well done representation of modern evil, I just found it unnerving.

I read a couple things on this. Best point made: This is not being marketed towards children. Its sold to adults who know what they're getting in to. And it is disturbing, that's the point.

Sounds pretty awesome to me. I'd definitely play it if the terrorism was in the name of Allah so I could fuck 72 virgins whenever I died. They would probably be all dudes with my luck lately

Well, see, now that you've all played this game you're going to start killing people in real life. The death of real innocent people will no longer phase you. Thats just how it works. Duh.
