i've actually started telling people i listen to indie and folk music cause of the stigma involved with punk. if i get to know them i explain it, but when i'm introducing myself and the topic comes up, its just easier not to talk about it
ETA: jebus, i sound like i'm talking about some complex social issue, not music i like. what have i become?

I don't think Hot Topic is doing anything wrong. I see it just as another store, you can shop there... or not. They do sell a lot of ridiculous shit in there, but they also give good deals on good shit. you can't pass up a $8 pair of jeans man. Their music selection is actually really good as well. I bought RAR, CRiME, Disco, and The Original Cowboy at hot topic.

Samsies. Saying you like punk music is frightening to some people. And I want to be loved at my fragile age, so I just say I listen to rap music and some other stuff.

I still don't buy into the Punk Is Dead crap. I get what they're saying, I really do, but scene is more of a community now, and more defines the sound of the genre. It may not be what it once was, but I'm okay with still calling it punk. I also don't give a shit about Hot Topic. It's all the popular stuff, isn't it? Is that suppose to be punk? I have ideals, and so do a lot of people, instilling that into music, and giving that music a certain sound can be punk. Why not? arguments. Punk is just one big argument anymore. Fuck the selling out argument, fuck the being popular argument(bands do what they want). I'm just sick of the whole fucking thing.
Good words. I agree.
When people ask me what I listen to I tell them hardcore punk rock. whatever it evokes in their mind is their thing; I'll list a few bands if they ask. They rarely ask and when they ask and I name a few bands, they never know. It doesn't matter to me. all that matters is going to the shows, singing along to every word, and what the music means to me on a personal level. And what is it? Shows, fists, battered ankles and shins, bloody noses, late night drives, stolen 40s, back alley regurgitation, slamming vodka, being crushed by an over-studded stage diver who got punched by Stza crack, late night tranny adventures into downtown Denver, basement shows that break my glasses, and excess rum in the arroyos on a rainy night. yum.
