My favourite argument is the banana one. It's something about how a banana is perfectly shaped to fit human hands. The counter argument is that a penis is shaped so that it perfectly fits in a man's anus, thus proving God wants us to be gay.

Creationists hate that counter-argument.

cheers

These old guys in videos wouldn't be teased so much if they just said God puts those changes into all life over time... a long ass time... so they can adapt and grow on earth, Instead of talking about peanut butter for 2 minutes or however long that video was... making me not wanna eat peanut butter because there was an ant and maybe mold they had shown puuping in it.

Applying evolution to my everyday actions can be both depressing and liberating.

I wasn't being a dick, I actually am curious as to how the idea of evolution can be applied to daily life.

In my mind, the idea of evolution is that things change gradually over time in response to external stimuli. That's not terribly depressing or liberating. But again, this is my thinking and I am genuinely curious about Mike's ideas on the subject.

Hey I wasn't calling you a dick, it was purely in jest.

In all reality I'm interested to hear what he has to say myself.

Well, to be fair I kind of did sound like a dick.

Hey, did you hear about that new movie about Darwin? The guy who played Marturin in "Master and Commander" plays Darwin. Fuck yeah.

And just to keep this post on topic, has anyone here read "Evolution: The Triumph of an Idea" by Carl Zimmer? Good stuff.

Haha I didn't hear about that film but that sounds great, Master & Commander rocks jocks socks. And also mine.

Haven't read the book but I'll stick it on my to do list that's currently taking up most of my hard drive.

I appreciate the interest.

One of the most basic ideas of evolution is that you should make sure you live longer so that you reproduce more. When I apply this to people I have met and myself it makes me realize that we're all a bunch of selfish schmucks trying to get through life so that there can be more of us by the time we die. Well, it makes me depressed because I realize that I'm just one more piece of shit trying to eat, fuck, then sleep on a daily basis. Then again, it makes me relax because I know that no one else is really going towards anything greater than what I am, so I feel pretty free to do whatever I want. Also, it gives me a bit of a direction because I want to be a humanitarian kinda guy. But I'm pretty close to being a nihilistic asshole too, so it can always give me one reason to help people out: So that there can be more good people to make more good people.

I know what you mean, though. For the past half a year pretty much that exact train of thought has been at least somewhat prominent on my mind.
